Opting Out of ICBC Provider Network

It all begins with an idea.

Recently, ICBC released a new set of terms that are now officially in effect as March 30th, 2025. Our clinic has made the difficult decision to remove ourselves from ICBC’s Provider Network and to end our direct billing to ICBC.  The Physiotherapy Association of BC, an advocate for physiotherapists of BC, has attempted to request small but significant changes to the updated terms and conditions; however, ICBC has declined these change requests.

We truly understand the disappointment our current clients and potential future clients are experiencing.  We are disappointed in having to make this decision as we have seen how direct billing fills a need for ICBC clients in accessing care.   We want to ensure we are being transparent with this decision.

The new agreement gives ICBC extensive control over how care is provided and potentially conflicts with BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPA). This is of great concern for us as practitioners as well as for our clients.

If we continue to be a part of ICBC’s provider network, we would be forced to accept their oversight into our treatment plans.  The new contract puts you at risk of having your treatment retroactively denied, leaving you financially responsible for care that ICBC initially approved.)

We CAN STILL TREAT YOU! While we won’t be an ICBC vendor, our practitioners are still available to support your recovery.

We will not be able to direct bill, so you will pay for your treatment at the time of service and submit your receipts to ICBC for reimbursement.

We know it is difficult navigating the world after an accident and we are truly frustrated that ICBC’s policies may be a limiting client’s access to care after a motor vehicle accident. We feel we have made an informed decision that ultimately protects our clients, their privacy as well as protecting our ethics and values.

We are hopeful that our clinic’s decision as well as many other providers, will make ICBC look further into their terms and conditions and anticipate this is a short-lived decision.  We will continue to communicate any changes or updates to our clients as we move forward.

We continue to be fully committed to your health and recovery and will do what we can to support you through your rehabilitation journey.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all navigate the outcome of the decision to Opt-Out of ICBC’s Provider Network.
