      <image:caption>In terms of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP joint), dislocations may occur in 4 different directions and thus produce 4 different results. These results are: medial/lateral instability, volar plate disruption, and boutonniere deformities.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What is involved in a finger dislocation? - What is involved in a finger dislocation? - Medial/Lateral Instability</image:title>
      <image:caption>This dislocation is caused by a disruption of a collateral ligament. Treatment includes buddy taping, which allows for supported flexion and extension.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What is involved in a finger dislocation? - What is involved in a finger dislocation? - Volar Plate Disruption</image:title>
      <image:caption>This occurs when the volar plate is partially or fully torn or avulsed (detached/separated). Treatment includes splinting of the PIP joint in 30° flexion, gradually increasing to full extension/straightening of finger over 3 weeks, while allowing the PIP/DIP to continue to bend. Splinting is encouraged for up to 6 weeks.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What is DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis - What is DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis? - Tenosynovitis is an inflammation of the synovial sheath that surrounds a tendon. It is caused by overuse or injury of the underlying tendons. DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis (also known as Mommy’s thumb) is a tenosynovitis of the sheath surrounding the tendons at the base of the thumb.</image:title>

      <image:title>What is DeQuervain's Tenosynovitis - What is DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis? - An individual with DeQuervain’s will experience pain at the base of thumb, as well as tenderness and possible signs of swelling at the wrist. Pain is exacerbated by bending the wrist towards the little finger or moving the thumb towards the little finger. The Finklestein’s test uses the combination of these movements in the diagnosis of this condition.</image:title>

      <image:title>What is CMC Joint Arthritis? - What is CMC Joint Arthritis? - The base of the thumb is a common area for osteoarthritis (OA). In the early stages, the joint may ache after use. Later you will begin to notice that the joint swells at times, and it may become more difficult to open out the thumb from the base. The middle joint begins to compensate and becomes more mobile.</image:title>

She enjoys spending time with her co-workers and learning not only the administrative duties, but also the specific terminology that comes with Hand Therapy. Daniela finds Victoria to be a calm city but at the same time there is always something new do to or try. She enjoys hiking and discovering new spots to have a meal or a great cup of coffee. She has a special love of dogs and hopes to start fostering in the near future.</image:caption>

      <image:title>What is a Mallet Finger?</image:title>
      <image:caption>Mallet finger is a “droop” of the fingertip caused by a disruption of the extensor tendon (the tendon which straightens the finger), with or without an avulsion fracture. Common causes include a direct blow (i.e. stubbing the finger, finger getting caught in fitted sheet when making the bed) to the fingertip or a laceration over the fingertip.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f28836195842f744bc9147c/1604448201287-K7FHA0CEL5NU3DVR3JW2/mallet%2Bfinger%2B2.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>What is a Mallet Finger? - What does IHTC do to help recover a mallet finger?</image:title>
      <image:caption>For the first 6 – 8 weeks a hyperextension stax splint/orthosis is worn 24 hours/day. The fingertip must be supported at all times. Even when cleaning the finger and splint/orthosis during the splinting process there are methods available to keep the finger hyperextended. If the finger is allowed to “droop” this will disrupt any tendon healing which has taken place. After 6 weeks of splinting has been completed, your therapist will carefully remove the splint/orthosis and check for a droop. If a droop is present you will continue to wear the splint/orthosis for a few more weeks. Then when your finger holds when, you will gradually start weaning out of the splint and your therapist will instruct you in gentle range of motion exercises.</image:caption>
